To create a new page, first click on the "New Page" button icon (on the top right of the screen). Next you will set the page location, editor and information. Finally, you will write and translate the page.
It's important to put your page in the right location so that others can easily find it. The pages in the wiki are nested from less to more specific information, so all you need to do is determine under which other page your page should go.
Groups
. For example: information about the national media working group should be placed under Groups
> National working groups
.Resources
. For example, social media guidelines should be placed under Resources
> Media
> Social Media
.If you and your group see a risk with having your information public on the wiki, consider sharing your information under private pages
The location of your page is determined by the URL path of the page. For example: If you want to make a page under the page Groups
> Local groups
, you get the path of that page (/en/groepen/lokaal
) and a /
plus some text that identifies your new page: /en/groepen/lokaal/alkmaar
. On the page location pop-up you can click through the folders and files to automatically generate the path
To create a folder you need to create a sub-page of another page. For example, if you want to create a folder for XR Alkmaar, you get the path for the XR Alkmaar page /en/groepen/lokaal/alkmaar/
, and create new page under it: /en/groepen/lokaal/alkmaar/new-page
.
Choosing a simple and clear URL path is important because the path is used to generate the breadcrumb navigation at the top of the page, which helps people see where in the wiki they are and where they can go to find the information they need.
Take the following into account when choosing your URL path:
nl
for dutch and en
for english. This is the language of the first version you will write. Later you can translate the page.en/
and nl/
part at the beginning.) For example: the Groups
page has the /nl/groepen
path for the dutch version of the page and /en/groepen
for the english version./en/groepen/lokaal/alkmaar
instead of /en/groepen/lokaal/XR alkmaar
/en/groepen/lokaal/alkmaar
instead of /en/groepen/lokaal/XR alkmaar lokale groep
-
. For example: the page for XR 't Gooi is en/groepen/lokaal/t-gooi
.Once you're done with choosing the location for your page, click on Select
.
Next, you will get to chose the editor for your page. Always choose the markdown editor. By writing all documents in markdown we make sure that all pages have the same organised structure and layout.
If you are unfamiliar with markdown, learn how to write markdown documents in Wiki.js.
Next, set the page information. This should be written in the language you selected earlier when creating the page. You should set the following information:
When you are done click on Ok
Write the page. Check out the writing guidelines for writing clear and accessible pages.
When you are ready to share a first version click on the Create
button and click on the Close
button to view your page.
The last thing that you neeed to do is to translate the page. See how to translate a page.
It is important to always translate your page because if you don't the page will not appear in the navigation for that language and people might not find it. If you don't have much time, you could even have a temporary text saying that this page still has to be translated.
